D.J. MacIntyre

D.J. MacIntyre makes progressive electronic music designed to unfold over time, favoring hypnosis, patient tension, and melodic detail. Progressive house holds the center of gravity, with melodic techno, organic house, and deep trance all finding their place within his sound.

Raised on California's Central Coast, MacIntyre first encountered electronic music while studying in Cambridge, England in 1999. The route from there was indirect: philosophy and Indian mythology, competitive athletics, business and several years in winemaking. The winery gave him a useful way to understand the work - select the high quality components, blend and refine them, and nurture the art that emerges. After leaving the wine business, he sought a new art in djing.  Tandava, his debut album, followed in 2017.

Tandava also prompted him to create SLC-6 Music. What began as a home for one album became a label built around close collaboration, control of the complete presentation and the freedom to move between styles. MacIntyre remains its founder and principal artist, but he describes SLC-6 above all as a community: a vehicle to meet artists, deepen relationships and give good music extended attention and life.

That idea is clearest in Constellations: Gemini, his two-part, two-and-a-half-hour 2020 mix assembled entirely from the SLC-6 catalog. The project involves layers of blending and reconstruction from individual tracks and remixes, to the larger dj mix.  The instinct for weaving runs through his recent release Moksa, made with Malta's F//asco and built around the voice of MacIntyre's former thesis adviser, the scholar Wendy Doniger. Its 2026 remix edition brought together Hernán Cattáneo and Marcelo Vasami, Franco Armellini and Runik - artists connected to MacIntyre through years of listening, travel and friendship.

Outside SLC-6 Music, his music has appeared on The Soundgarden, Beatfreak, Droid9, Movement Recordings, Clubsonica, Bonzai Progressive and others. He has played from Burning Man and Amsterdam to Moscow, Sri Lanka and Siberia, and all over North America. Across production, DJing and the label, the goal remains simple: find the hook, create the story, and leave the listener music worth returning to again and again.
